people singing together

This site is a choir

Have you ever participated in a video-chat prayer meeting, or meditation group, or energy healing circle? If so, then you know it’s possible to connect with other people vibrationally in Web spaces, not only by gathering physically.

We can sense another’s presence, scan and rebalance their energy field, conduct sacred rituals, offer and receive spiritual blessings through video chat apps. (It’s also possible to do these things during an ordinary phone conversation, or through an email exchange — or even by sending snail mail, or leaving notes on the fridge.)

How does this work?

1. intention

The first step of connecting is that we intend to connect.

It also helps to have some experience with practices where we would intend to connect at a distance — whether that’s been done with or without an Internet link. Long distance Therapeutic Touch, remote prayer healing and distance reiki are examples. In each of these practices, people hone their ability to intend and to manifest their intentions.

2. cognitive synchrony

This is simpler than it sounds.

When people sing a hymn or say a standard prayer together, their brains get into similar shapes. Focusing on the same ideas and symbols literally puts us “in sync.”

It’s even physiologically measurable.

We can also become somewhat synchronous across time. For instance, we can intend to be “in sync” with anyone (or everyone) who has ever sung the same hymn. This is why the most frequently used spiritual texts may seem to glow with power. You are potentially connecting with all the people who have ever connected with the text.

Cognitive synchrony also works with secular literature, like newspapers or novels, and even with scientific documents. It can work with any form of art, and especially with pieces of music — with or without lyrics. In each case, the artefact can become a portal to the “choir” of all its users.

At a humble, tangible level, library books can become the focal point for a “choir” of local readers interested in the subject.

Cognitive synchrony starts with intention, and a bit of skill.

3. your role

Whether you leave comments or just browse my essays and others’ comments, you will be engaging with the same documents and ideas as everyone else who browses this site. We will enter into increased synchrony with each other.

We can intend to become a choir.
An alliance of ensemble voices.

4. my intention

This site will become a space where our energy fields and vibrations can connect. We will create an ensemble, a circle, a vibrational meeting place. We will serve as each other’s extra hands. And each of us may be heard clapping.

One choral voice, singing.
One permeable voice, writing.

If you share my intention, please join my choir.
