ground rules

Hi y’all.
I’d like us to be friends.
Friendship starts with mutual respect.

Did y’all see that symbol at the bottom of the page? © for copyright. I’ll admit there might be a paradox here. If this site is a choir, what is that all about?

This month I have been re-reading the delightful Howard Becker classic, Art Worlds (1982). Becker’s theme was that all creative art work happens in a social infrastructure and relies on diverse kinds of participants. The instrument maker, backstage crew, ticket sales staff, audience and even art critic are all a part of the art world that allows an art work to be born. If any of these participants were missing, the work could not take shape in the form that it does.

Creating new ideas is a coordinated social effort. And yet, some of the people involved are recognized as “artists” and primary creators of a work. Artists borrow and use other people’s efforts to help them create art. Sometimes people disagree about the direction of that relationship. For instance, a dancer may think he is using a choreographer to help express his creativity; and vice versa

The artists are the ones who can claim the initial spark, and who commit to manifesting it. An artist puts their name on their work; and their name is built on their work. All the contributors are needed. But someone decides to cook this dish, with these ingredients and techniques, at this moment in time. That person is the chef, the artist.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

This site is https://onechoralvoice.ca
The articles and ideas published on this site are my ideas.
(Except for signed comments – those might be the commentors’ ideas.)

I am the creator and owner of the content on this site.

In particular the visual design concepts are also mine. The images are mostly from pexels.com, a public domain image source.

And in particular ALL THE TECHNIQUES DESCRIBED HERE are my intellectual property. This includes voice techniques, voice-teaching methods and vibrational-healer methods. I am a working artist, musician, energy healer, writer, teacher and coach.

That’s how I pay the rent.

Please don’t steal from me!

When I use other people’s ideas, I give them credit and follow the scholarly rules of fair use. Others’ ideas are included here (like Howard Becker’s at the beginning of this article) for purposes of review, synthesis, expansion, assessment and critique. Please extend the same level of respect to me.

FOR COACHES

If you use any of my ideas or materials, please mention the source to your students, as you would do if you used any textbook or borrowed teaching materials. Please share content by distributing links directly to this Web site, and encourage all ensemble singers to visit the site directly. I’d love to hear about how you make these ideas and exercises work in your setting.

& Let’s be in touch collegially!

ENERGY EXCHANGE

If my ideas are useful to you, it’s customary (and good karma) to offer an equivalent energy exchange. This does not have to be a material donation, although donations are very welcome to help keep this earthly human housed & fed & circulating !!

Cash donations are welcome at

Energy exchange can also be sent as lifeforce.

How to do this? It is like a spiritual paypal or Interac transfer. You simply ask the angels or the Great Spirit (by whatever name) to send me wealth on your behalf, preferably during this year of my current lifetime. Your “account password” is a meditative state, or prayerfulness, or “mindfulness,” which is to say: alpha/theta brain wavelengths.

YOUR PRIVACY

If you’d like to leave a comment, I’ll ask for a name and email address to help confirm that you are an actual human, not a spambot. If you check the “Save my name” box, that information is saved so you don’t have to enter it the next time you comment. Your personal information is never used for anything else.

If you sign up for my mailing list, you will get a digest of new articles once a month. Depending on demand, this may possibly go up to twice a month. That’s it! I hope the articles will be interesting and valuable enough for people to bookmark the site and begin interacting with me (and each other) regularly.

I don’t use cookies.
I don’t sell nor buy email address lists.
Please sign up for my email list, as that’s the only way it will get longer.

THIRD PARTY DATA USERS

Web Hosting Canada is the hosting provider for this site and stores my backup data. Based in Montreal, they work with cutting edge encryption and physical protection to secure everyone’s privacy and data security to Canadian standards. My understanding is that’s a bit more secure than Yanqui standards; though not quite as good as the Europeans. I’m never sure what Big Sister Ontario will do next.

Mailpoet. The mailing service provider used for this site is Mailpoet, based in Europe, and follows European GDPR standards. This gives us better protection than current Canadian standards. For instance they insist on “double opt-in” for all mailing lists, so it’s not possible for someone else to add you to a list. They store backup and usage data in aggregate form.

Web-based commerce. As of now there is no sales app linked to this site. If I add one it will probably be Woocommerce, also conforming to European GDPR standards.

Thanks for playing nice!
